UWE is committed to addressing racial inequalities and creating an inclusive culture and environment where individuals are able to thrive, irrespective of their race or ethnicity. To help facilitate progress, we are currently involved in self-assessment of UWE against the criteria of the race equality charter mark which is being rolled out across the higher education sector.
To help us assess where we are, and ensure that all BME staff and student have an opportunity to input to this process, we very much want to hear BME your views on working and studying at UWE and also recommend ways in which UWE can advance race equality.
If you are from any BME background (see below) then we would like to invite you to participate in one of the workshops we will be running across the university. The workshops will last between 2 to 3 hours and take place mainly on the Frenchay campus this October 2015.
BME includes visible and non-visible ethnicities
Black, Asian and other minority ethnic groups, e.g. Indian, Arab, Chinese, African, African American, Black Caribbean, etc.
White minority ethnic groups, e.g. French, Peruvian, Russian, White Polish, Irish Traveller, White American/Canadian, etc.
Individuals from mixed ethnic backgrounds
International staff and students who may face differences in experience based on their ethnic background and/or national origin
Confidentiality: All participants’ identities and contributions to the workshops will be confidential and any quotes, opinions put forward will be anonymised. Your experience will be noted but ‘who said what’ will not be. To ensure optimum confidentiality, an additional layer of proofing has been put in place before the report is finalised to ensure no participant is identifiable.
