PAIRS is a society for all students interested in domestic and international politics.

The society aims to create a lively environment to discuss current issues and topics and to provide networking opportunities to our members. It is also a great meeting point for students of Politics & International Relations from all levels to get peer support.

While the society makes the learning of Politics & IR more engaging, it is by no means only for the students of these subjects. We encourage all students interested in current affairs to join. All that is required is an interest for the subject. In addition we also co-operate with other political societies at UWE and organize official debates with them twice a term. UWE Question Times held this academic year were highly successful!

Model United Nations (MUN) conferences are an official part of PAIRS activities. We participate in at least one MUN annually together, and will inform our members of up-coming MUNs around the world. The first UWE MUN Conference was organized in October 2012 and continues to be even bigger and better as each year passes.  PAIRS hosted its fourth MUN this November, where we discussed renewable energy around sustainability and climate change.

The most common activities are the regular socials and debates, which we aim to run weekly. Our past socials have included traditional pub evenings, bowling, mini-golf, the Bristol Festival of Ideas talks and a joint social with the Politics Society of University of Bristol. We also attempt to look out for interesting talks locally, nationally and within the university.

PAIRS is a multi award winning society, in the past we have been honoured being voted the Best Academic Society of the Year, best Trip and most improved society and we constantly receive nominations at the society ball. So come along to our events, and be part of an active friendly bunch of like minded people!
