Argentine tango, an improvisational social dance with its origins in late 19th century Buenos Aires and Montevideo, is now enjoyed by millions of people worldwide. This fun introduction will give you the opportunity to understand and practice the basics of leading and following to a soundtrack of Golden Age tango music and contemporary alternative sounds. You can choose to lead or to follow, and there is no need to come with a partner. Argentine tango is a unique social dance. It is characterised by the deeply connected quality of its leading and following relationship, in producing a dance that is entirely improvised and musical. Through Argentine tango we learn how to move, relate and communicate in ways that have been shown to have significant health and well-being benefits. Argentine tango practitioners commonly refer to the joy that comes from their dancing; to the ways in which tango helps them switch off from the stresses of their lives. In order to dance tango we must focus exclusively, and completely, on our partner and the music; we must be entirely in the moment.
