Druids Lodge Polo Club
Welcome to UWE Polo Club's Give It a Go Sessions! Sessions will run on Wednesday 26th, Saturday 29th September and Wednesday 3rd October. If you'd like to have a go but can't make any of those dates just let us know and we'll do our best to find another date for you!
You DO NOT have to have ever sat on a horse before so if you don't ride don't let that put you off! Each taster session lasts for around 2 hours - the first hour is spent on the ground familiarising yourself with a polo stick and ball and learning basic shots. The second hour is spent aboard a polo pony specially selected to suit your needs (ie, your height/weight/previous riding experience if you have any), learning the basic aids and testing their speed! Sessions usually finish with a bit of fun and games! You can bring a friend to take part or just to watch or come alone - we're a welcoming bunch who don't fit the classic 'rich and stuck up' stereotype! We'll sort out the transport there and back and can do lifts from Glenside or Frenchay! All sessions are suitable for all levels, so don't be afraid to Give it A Go
The session costs £45 which is heavily subsidised from the non uni price of £110. Subsidies run for all uni polo making it the perfect time to learn.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS for Give It A Go Sessions:
I'M BOOKED IN FOR A TASTER, HOW AM I GETTING THERE? If you are down to have a taster but are not driving, please meet us at the Meeting Point (outside Frenchay Nursery) 2 hours prior to your lesson time.
WHAT TIME DO I NEED TO BE AT THE NURSERY? Both drivers and non-drivers, please get to the Frenchay Nursery by the following times: Wednesday 26th September taster - 2:30pm meet at at 12:30pm Saturday 29th - 1:30pm meet at at 11:30am Wednesday 3rd October taster - 2:30pm meet at at 12:30pm
HOW DO I KNOW WHO'S DRIVING ME? We will sort out on the day who is going in which car when everyone meets up as it's easier that way! Be assured we have checked and double checked our driver to non-driver ratio so you will not be left behind!
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING? Please bring yourselves, your money (cash or card is fine!), your riding hat if you have one (there are ones to borrow if you don't have one so don't worry!), and a smile.
WHAT DO I NEED TO WEAR? Please don't worry if you have never ridden or don't have your usual riding gear with you! Wear whatever clothes you feel comfortable in; jods/leggings/tracksuit bottoms, tshirt/jumper etc. A pari of shoes with a slight heel would help as well. Make sure you bring something warm in case it's cold, and maybe a spare set of clothes if it's forecast to rain!
I DON'T KNOW ANYONE GOING, WILL I BE OKAY? Of course! Everyone here is new to Polo and maybe even new to riding. UWE Polo isn't about becoming the best looking rider with the best horse, it's about having fun and taking everyone else out with your horse (kidding about that last part.. kinda) There will also be a couple of members of the committee around at all times, and we're all super friendly and here to help you have a good time, so relax and come and enjoy being part of UWE Polo for a day!
I CAN’T MAKE THE TASTERS BUT WOULD LIKE TO DO ONE/MY FRIEND WANTS TO TRY POLO TOO, CAN THEY STILL JOIN? Absolutely!, We will be running an overflow taster session after the ones we have planned in or we can find another time that suits, so please just get in touch if you haven't booked in but would still like to try Polo!
I EMAILED UWEPOLO1@GMAIL.COM BUT RECEIVED NO REPLY? We are trying our very hardest to respond to all emails as quickly as possible, due to the high levels of interest this year (yay!), so if we don't get back to you within 24 hours please message us on Facebook and tell us off!!
If there are any more questions or things I haven't covered please don't hesitate to ask!! No question is a silly one
