Sustainability Committee 2019 Elections

Sustainability Committee 2019 Elections

Wed 29 May 2019 17:30-19:30

Meeting Room 1, SU Building 1, Frenchay Campus

At this event, we will be electing members of the SU Sustainability Committee for academic year 2019/20.

The committee is dedicated to improving sustainability engagement with UWE students, using methods such as green events, volunteering, and campaigning. They will also help to develop the sustainability practice and credentials at The Students’ Union at UWE, and the wider UWE Bristol community.

For more information on what students get up to in the committee and for information about committee positions available, please see our web page dedicated to the Sustainability Committee

Please register your interest HERE by 23.59 on the 28th of May!

How can I stand for a committee position?

If you would like to run for a position, all you need to do is show up at the event. You will be required to give a short elevator (2 minute max) pitch about why you believe they would be an appropriate fit for the position you're running for. This is nothing too scary; you could talk about where your passion for sustainability comes from, or even which particular issues interest you the most. These pitches will be followed by a vote. It will be conducted in a similar style to the AGM’s that our sports and society groups run to elect new committee members.

Which positions are available in this by-election?

  • Biodiversity
  • Campus Development
  • Education
  • Energy
  • Engagement

What if I cannot make the event?

It is absolutely fine if you cannot make the event and still want to stand for a position. You will need to write down your short pitch (as detailed above) in an email and send to lauren.mcleron@uwe.ac.uk by May 28th (23:59). In the email, please include the positions you would like to stand for in numbered order of preference (most preferable as number 1). Your elevator pitch will be read out by a staff member at the event for people to take their votes. We will contact you via email to let you know the result of the committee election.

What if I don't want to run for a position at all?

You don't have to be running for a position to come along to this event! You may come along, support friends and vote in the election! It is important to have your say on who will be representing you on sustainability issues.
