WHAT:

As part of our committment to harm reduction, we are partnering with Bristol Drugs Project to host a number of pop-ups on Bower Ashton and Frenchay Campus giving out free testing kits and talking to students about testing substances at home. You'll also be able to get harm reduction support, advice and guidance.

You can drop into one of our sessions which will run between 11:00-15:00 on Frenchay and Bower Ashton Campuses.

No need to sign up, you can just drop in! You may just have to wait a few minutes to be seen. Come along on the day between 11:00-15:00.

In the run up to Pride Month we are running a Pre Pride Prep Party!

Do you feel apprehensive going to a salon/barbers?

Do you feel uncomfortable going somewhere that only cuts ‘womans’ hair or ‘gents’ hair?

Have you asked for a certain cut - but had it cut to what they think your genders hair 'should' be rather than what you asked for?

Well come to our inclusive pop up where you can get a free hair cut (If you can - donate to a LGBTQ+ Charity in exchange for the cut)

DJ Elley Phunk is going to be here playing some Queer bangers - she'll also teach you how to DJ if ya want!

We'll also have a Pride Clothes swaps and crafts to take part in.

So come along to Community Corner and around the shared space at Bower to take part, this is walk in on the day appointments, so come early to avoid disappointment (limited spaces)!

Come and paint some pottery - we are getting the painting kit from Trylla Ceramics studio, and Alice who owns the studio is facilitating this workshop so come in time to paint before she leaves at 2, once painted she will be taking them to fire in their kiln, we will collect once fired so you must be available to collect your finished piece 2 weeks later from the SU info desk at Bower.

Alice will be talking about being an anti ablist ally.

Join the Green Team for a day of environmental conservation volunteering at Simms Hill Community Woodland.The session will be lead by student project leaders and community volunteers from Simms Hill. WHAT TO EXPECT:

Join us for a community screening of the National Emergency Briefing film followed by a panel discussion.

In November 2025, the National Emergency Briefing brought together leading experts to present the latest evidence on the climate and nature crisis to politicians and influential figures in Westminster. That evidence is now publicly available, and it reveals a crisis more serious and immediate than many realise.

This 50-minute film combines authoritative scientific content from the Westminster event with personal reactions from members of the public and familiar voices. It delivers frank facts about the threats facing every constituency in the UK, from health and food systems to infrastructure, security, and economic stability. Importantly, it also highlights the enormous benefits of bold, urgent government action, offering a pathway to a better future.

The film is supported by a wide range of organisations including the National Trust, Church of England, Exeter University, Royal Meteorological Society, WWF, and the National Education Union. Its non-partisan purpose is to foster informed democratic discussion and ensure Parliament and the public share a common understanding of the scale and urgency of this challenge.

Many viewers have shared that while the facts are alarming, the film inspires optimism about confronting the crisis together.

About the Screening Programme
Each community screening is followed by a structured, locally focused discussion guided by the NEB team. These conversations remain constructive and solution-oriented, helping people process the information emotionally and engage meaningfully. By bringing communities and decision-makers together around the same evidence, the programme aims to spark informed dialogue at local and national levels.

BDAS Waste to Worth: The Power of Repair Sharing and Reuse in Bristol (29/04/2026, 18:00)

How can circular economy practices such as repair, sharing, reuse and composting help Bristol's communities build skills, strengthen social connections and ease the pressures of the cost-of-living crisis? This panel explores the power of community-led initiatives to reduce waste, build resilience and create a more sustainable, connected city. Host Laura Fogg-Rogers, Associate Professor of Engineering in Society at UWE Bristol, will introduce the circular economy in accessible terms and highlight city-wide efforts such as the Bristol Repair Coalition.

She will be joined by Anna Perry, Chair of Share Bristol, Jenny Liggitt from Heart of BS13, and Andy Street, Chair of FareShare South West and Feeding Bristol. Together they will discuss how initiatives such as repair, sharing schemes, composting and food redistribution can strengthen communities, develop practical skills and support people through the cost-of-living crisis.

The conversation will celebrate Bristol's existing successes while exploring future possibilities for a more circular and resilient city.

Where: Bristol Drugs Project, 11 Brunswick Square, St Paul's, Bristol BS2 8PE

The Loop's regular drug checking service, the first in the UK, takes place every last Saturday of the month in Bristol. The Loop team, chemists and healthcare staff, complete drug testing in our mobile laboratory and provide harm reduction advice and consultations informed by the testing of submitted substances. Everyone is welcome to use the service and to drop-in to meet and speak with The Loop. These sessions are anonymous, non-judgemental and free.

Why?

All drug use carries risk.

The risk is currently heightened due to concerns about synthetic substances unknowingly being missold and consumed. This service informs national and local stakeholders about dangerous substances in circulation while informing public messaging, drug alerts and other early warning systems.

In line with current government policy, The Loop Bristol Drug Checking Service is focused on those at the greatest risk of harm – people with dependent drug use.

The Loop Drug Checking Service will provide individually tailored healthcare consultations to people with dependent drug use which discuss relative risks, harm reduction strategies and signposting to further drug treatment and health services.

Come to meet the Greyhounds and lurchers that have been rescued by Bristol Charity Dawg.

They will be in The SU cafe area throughout the lunch break waiting for strokes and cuddles. They're cute and they're heading to Bower!

Epilepsy Action is hosting virtual events for Student Nurses and Midwives! Since epilepsy often isn’t covered enough at university, we’re offering sessions designed to boost confidence, build knowledge, and help future healthcare professionals feel prepared to support people with epilepsy. Perfect for students at any stage of their studies. We’ll be running two events, repeated twice throughout the year:

We know at Epilepsy Action epilepsy care isn’t always built into your nursing or midwifery training curriculum.Join us for a free practical 90-minute session designed specifically for student nurses and student midwives, where you'll hear about the lived experiences of people with epilepsy and share the best practice of how to care for them in your role as a nurse and or midwife. The speakers have an extensive knowledge and experience of working in a nursing or midwifery role and will share their experiences when caring for a person with epilepsy.

UWE Bristol's Repair Café runs every second Wednesday of the month, 11:45 - 13.45 in the Atrium of Z Block (School of Engineering)

Repair of small electrical items and appliances, clothes, and more. Whatever can be glued, soldered, or stitched, though we don’t have the capacity to fix tablets, laptops, and mobile phones.
