Social Prescribing - drugs are not the only script
Event Description
Social Prescribing - drugs are not the only script
Thu 03 May 2018 19:00-21:00
Room 1H12, Glenside Campus, Blackberry Hill, Bristol BS16 1DD
UWE Physician Associate Society presents:
Social Prescribing - drugs are not the only script
Social Prescribing is when patients are "prescribed" local, non-clinical activities like gardening or music for therapeutic purposes. The benefits are manifold and there are
no drugs
involved.
In this talk you will understand the theory and practice of Social Prescribing - with academic theory underlined by clinical practice.
Speakers:
Dr Michael Dixon
LVO, OBE, MA, FRCGP. Michael is a past
President of NHS Clinical Commissioners
. He also
chairs the College of Medicine
and is
National Clinical Champion for Social Prescribing
(NHS England).
Dr Richard Kimberlee
. Richard is a
Senior Research Fellow
at UWE and teaches public health economics. His current research interests includes evaluating complex community and health interventions. He recently reported to Bristol Clinical Commissioning Group on social prescribing activity across the city and made policy recommendations on sustaining and expanding holistic social prescribing practice. He is a founding member of the Social Prescribing Network and is the
lead for the Social Prescribing Network
in the South West.
Dr Marion Steiner
.
Bristol GP
. Trained at Guy’s Hospital, London, qualifying in 1985. Joined Southmead & Henbury Family Practice in 1996 and is involved in teaching medical students and overseeing prescribing. Marion is interested in the connection between creativity and health, and is a keen advocate of social prescribing.
Colette Brown
works for The Southmead Development Trust (SDT) in North Bristol – part of Bristol’s Healthy Living Consortium. She
manages SDT’s social prescribing service
‘Healthy Alternatives’, which is part of the city-wide SPEAR model (in partnership with Wellspring Healthy Living Centre, Knowle West Healthy Living Centre and The Care Forum). She brings first hand knowledge of the experience of users of social prescribing.
