Find your Community

Volunteering with The Students' Union

Amy Bernice Staff, Sustainability OfficerComing to university is such an exciting time, and one of the best ways to embrace this is to get involved in the community we have here at The Students’ Union and UWE Bristol. Our lovely staff have many opportunities for you to do this.

If fundraising for a good cause is your bag, you need to join RAG.

RAG stands for raising and giving. RAG has grown from strength to strength and this year we raised over £73,000, which will be donated to a number of local, national and international charities. We are really proud of the students that led this activity and all the amazing hard work they put into it. They have organised jailbreaks, colour runs, 24 hour gaming marathons and whole charity weeks by our Islamic Society. If you want to help us beat our record, get involved by emailing rag@uwe.ac.uk, find them on Facebook and follow on Twitter at @UWERAG.

Are you wild for sustainability? Our gorgeous Green Team are here for you.

We work on existing projects, such as the community garden and reducing The Students’ Union’s and University’s use of plastic, as well as starting new projects. This year we have won many awards, such as Green Impact, Responsible Futures, and Green Gowns -  you could say we are sustainability champs!

So if you love soil or hate plastic, join in with our Green Team by emailing thegreenteam@uwe.ac.uk, search for them on Facebook or follow them on Twitter @thegreen_team.

From September we are also going to have our brand new Nightline service. This is an out of hours listening service for students. They will listen to you about a whole range of issues, from arguments with your flatmates, to loneliness, to dealing with depression. You can call them during term time 21:00 – 9:00, with any problem that you may have. During the day you can speak to our Advice Centre or the Wellbeing Service.

Nightline is there to listen to you. There are also opportunities for you to get involved in this, if you would like to volunteer email nightline@uwe.ac.uk.

Hopefully by now you can see the great community activities we offer here at The Students’ Union, and you will be well on your way to making lifelong friends, and changing the world.
