1. There isn’t a disabled students’ officer currently on the Union Executive.
2. Other Students’ Union in the UK has a full time or a part time disabled students’ officer.
3. We have a core value of inclusivity and a strategic aim of representing the voice of all students.
4. That NUS has active policy to support students unions in improving disabled students representation.
5. There is a disabled students’ campaign network
1. That having a disabled students’ officer would greatly enhance the equality and diversity agenda of the university and the students’ union.
2. Having a disabled part time students’ officer would strengthen the relationship and communication between current disabled students and existing disability services.
3. Having a disabled officer would be a platform for a currently under represented segment of the student body to have a voice.
4. Greater involvement and engagement in student life, this will increase participation in activities such as Disability History Month.
5. That the disabled students’ campaign network would be more active and a stronger campaigning force with the support of a part time disabled students’ officer.
1. To elect a disabled students officer onto the union executive.
2. Revive the Disabled Students’ Network and support it to be more active.
3. To amend the by-laws as appropriate
