1. The huge importance that Equality and Diversity play in everything that we do, represented through our core value of Inclusivity.
2. The Equality Act 2010 (http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2010/15/contents) and the obligations we have within it.
3. The existence of UWE’s Single Equality Scheme, put together as a result of student and staff consultation (http://www1.uwe.ac.uk/aboutus/visionandmission/equalityanddiversity/singleequalityscheme.asp)
4. That we have in place an Equal Opportunities policy.
5. That we have in place a Safer Spaces Policy.
1. That we can continue to strengthen the work we do to support inclusivity at the Students’ Union by developing a more formal Equality and Diversity policy.
2. That we can strengthen the presence of Equality and Diversity in our activities by embedding training for our student groups.
3. That Single Equality Scheme has been an extremely positive step for the university and can be built on further.
1. To develop an Equality and Diversity policy for sign-off by the Board of Trustees once the completed policy has been agreed by Student Council on 1st April 2014.
2. That this policy is reviewed annually reflecting any student feedback received through consultation on the policy.
3. To develop an action plan that highlights activities we will undertake to promote Equality and Diversity.
4. To build on the existing Single Equality Scheme which will lapse in 2015 and help to steer the next stage of the strategy.
5. That this will tie in to our existing Safer Spaces policy.
