Ahmd and Sian have some updates about what The Students' Union are working on for international students.
1). At Student Council in February 2016 we were mandated to lobby the university to act as a guarantor. Since then we have written a research report about other universities acting as guarantors and produced recommendations. The results from the “101 things I wished I knew before I came to UWE” research were used as evidence for the recommendations we made. We were then able to present these to the International Student Experience Committee, the committee endorsed the idea, which is a great step forward! We will now be working with the new task group on this becoming a reality. If you need any advice on accommodation go to thestudentsunion.co.uk/advice
2). This year we provided the most diverse offer of Freshers’ events yet, we had a whole mix of day and night time events. We also had our biggest international students’ welcome fair yet with lots of tea and scones and over 500 students attending. We had a chance to talk to lots of you about what The Students’ Union does, and the activities we offer.
3). We have worked with the university on the communications they give you before you get here, to make sure it is as clear as possible. So you know what is happening and the opportunities you have. We are hoping to work with the university on creating a video to show all of this to you. We are hoping to get some of the national societies involved in this too!
