UWE athletics and cross country club took on the hills of Sheffield in this years instalment of BUCS cross country. Hills are an understatement! Thankfully the rain held off but a course littered with tree roots, rocks, a stream and a hay bail left each competitor suitably exhausted.
UWE Athletics and Cross Country club took on the hills of Sheffield in this years instalment of BUCS Cross Country. Hills are an understatement! Thankfully the rain held off but a course littered with tree roots, rocks, a stream and a hay bail left each competitor suitably exhausted. The mens 'A' race totalled 10.4km; Ben Mitchel taking first place for UWE, 92nd overall with a time of 35:26, followed Will Robinson (196) in 39:14, Nick Jones (236) in 41:09, Seb Olingschlaeger (262) in 42:21 and finishing off with Findlay Fuller (302) in 45:43.
The second race of the day, the ladies 7.4km challenge, where we had a record 8 female competitors! Crossing the line for UWE began with Elin Davies (350) 35:12; Lucy Fraser (447) 37:88; Petra Ting (520) 40:09; Emma Gardner (562) 42:20; Molly Roberts (583) 43:57; Maria Normington (601) 46:12; Lauren Goddard (605) 47:45; Grace Cunningham (608) 49:36.
The final race of the day, the mens 'B' race measuring at 8.2km and suitably muddy following the previous two races. Jake Southwood leading the way for UWE (359) 35:34; Ryan Cronin (374) 35:51; Simon Pitman (378) 36:02; Michael Dean (492) 39:41; Gavin Way (553) 44:39 and Brett Parfitt (574) finishing in 56:14 with an enormous smile. Don't ask me how!
What was a logistical nightmare to organise paid off to see each member cross the finish line and truly bond as a squad.
