The joint venture between UWE Bristol, Bristol University and both students’ unions, has been selected as a finalist for Marketing Campaign of The Year at the Bristol Business Awards.
The awards, which are organised by the Bristol Post, aim to put Bristol Businesses in the spotlight, giving them the recognition that they deserve in front of Bristol’s Business community.
The Marketing Campaign of The Year award recognises those organisations that have communicated effectively with their target audience (internal or external) over the past year, as part of an ongoing programme or a one-off campaign, using a variety of channels such as media relations, public relations, and online media.
The Varsity Series marketing campaign, which was led by The Students Union at UWE and Bristol SU, targeted students and staff at both universities, along with the local community, using a variety of digital, print and social media channels, which also included the development and management of campaign microsite - www.varsityseries.com.
“Our vision for the 2017 Varsity Series was to have more competitors, more spectators and more social media interactions than ever before. Varsity is always a massive event for our Sports Clubs but we wanted to make a huge effort in engaging people who wouldn’t normally participate.
This year we smashed our targets with an increase in participants to over 2000 students, we had almost 6000 spectators and just under 5000 social media interactions. We added brand new events like our Friday Night Lights Varsity combining both American Football and Lacrosse and had amazing turnout from our mass participation Colour Run event. The feedback we have had back from students have been fantastic and our marketing campaign really managed to engage a mass audience.”

The Awards will be hosted at Ashton Gate Stadium on Wednesday 28 June.
