Public speaking can be daunting for many people, but it is a big part of being a representative of The Students’ Union if you stand as one of the part-time Officers. The role is a great opportunity to develop this skill.
And that’s okay! Don’t let things not going your way dishearten you, it’s a good learning curve and a part of any job.
At the beginning of your role, it’s easy to feel like you should respond to students immediately at every opportunity.It’s important to remember to continue making time for yourself and taking time to relax.
Like any job, there will be busy periods which can be challenging. From meetings, to events, to engaging students, you sure won’t be short of variety so make the most of each opportunity and enjoy it!
As a part-time Officer, you will have a level of responsibility for students and the things that matter to them at university. It can be quite daunting at first but you will end up learning a lot which will benefit you in the future.
