It has been both a pleasure and a privilege to have spent two years as an elected officer.
It has been both a pleasure and a privilege to have spent two years as an elected officer for positions: Frenchay Campus Officer and later President at The Students’ Union. However, now it is time to hand on the torch. Being held accountable for 30,000 people is no easy job and on most days, it’s a thankless one too!
I am proud of the great things that we have achieved as The Students’ Union, from reducing the graduation ticket price from £35 to £15 and to extending the opening hours at The Students' Union at Glenside. It’s crucial we remain a campaigning organisation with a fiery ambition that benefits and changes students' lives for the better.
I have been incredibly lucky to have the continued support of our staff team at The Students’ Union, my friends and my family. I really couldn’t have kept motivated or got to where I am today without them.
As for me, I will be graduating this year and going in to the real world with so many lessons and learnings to take with me. I want to wish Zain (our new President as of July) the best of luck and who I know will do great things in the role.
A final thought. If you’re reading this thinking ‘I could never do all that’. We need more people like you standing in elections. I thought that once…
