The Students’ Union at UWE won the overall NUS Green Impact Award for a Commercial Union after being rated Excellent at The NUS Awards 2017.
We are delighted to announce that we were rated the top standard of excellent at the NUS Green Impact Awards. We are one of nine students’ unions to receive the top award, achieving 406 points – 92% above the average score. Not only this, but we won the award overall.
The Students’ Union has worked through the workbook of criteria of actions from NUS – giving us a structured framework for advancing sustainability and truly realising our strategic plan goal to “embed sustainability in all that we do.”
“This is a fantastic starting point to continually strive forward to ensure we are sector leading on sustainability and matching our students’ passion for creating a positive future for us and for future generations to enjoy.”
- Rachel Colley, Community Manager
This award is a testament to the passion of our students, staff and colleagues – we will continue to drive towards improvement.
We were also awarded Silver for the Best Bar None Accreditation - a National Award Scheme supported by the Home Office and the drinks industry which is aimed primarily at promoting responsible management and operation of alcohol licensed premises.
In addition to this, Paul Dingley (Commercial Manager for Licensed Trade) and Thomas Haines (Sustainability Officer 2016/2017) have been shortlisted for the prestigious Green Gown Awards for individual contribution to sustainability. The awards take place in November – good luck!
Also, we were shortlisted in the Food and Drink Category with UWE for Project Fairtrade - Making a world of difference at UWE Bristol. Congratulations to our staff for their continued efforts to embed sustainability into all that we do.
