As part of our drive to reward and recognise our Student Reps we have introduced a Rep of the Month Award. This award is given to a Rep who has gone above and beyond their duties to bring issues to the attention of staff, make positive changes and engage students in their academic experience.
February's Rep of the Month Award has been given to Kelly Smallcombe. Kelly is a third year Rep for Business and Human Resource Management which falls within the Faculty of Business and Law. Kelly has been a Rep for all three of her years of study here at UWE Bristol and we are extremely happy to be able to reward and recognise her hard work and dedication to the role.
Being a good Student Rep can mean a lot of different things. As long as the Rep is providing a coherent link between students and staff then in our eyes, they are doing their job. Kelly is however a model example for Reps when it comes to utilising social media. The students on Business and Human Resource Management are kept up to date with course changes, assignment results dates, relevant news articles and even occasional satirical memes.
As well as developing clear channels of communication with her cohort, having a key impact on her course, Kelly has fed into broader, university wide issues. Student Rep Committees are run three times a year and invite all reps from all campuses to come together to discuss topics which effect all students. Kelly has been a key player in these meetings voicing the views of the students on her course which is extremely valuable in guiding change across UWE Bristol.
The students and staff on your course as well as us here at The Students’ Union recognise the valuable work you are doing Kelly. Keep up the good work.
