As part of our drive to reward and recognise our Student Reps we have introduced a Rep of the Month Award. This award is given to a Rep who has gone above and beyond their duties to bring issues to the attention of staff, make positive changes and engage students in their academic experience.
2017 has started with a bang. January's Rep of the Month Award has been given to Joanna Cox. Joanna is a third year Rep studying English which falls within the Faculty of Arts, Creative Industries and Education. Joanna received five nominations for Rep of the Month from her peers which all said fantastic things about her enthusiasm for the role as well as her caring personality.
Being a good Student Rep is not just about being popular with the students. Working professionally with staff to reach solutions which all parties are satisfied with is incredibly important. We asked Joanna’s lecturer for Fiction in Britain since 1970, Dr Mariadele Boccardi,to provide some input on Joanna’s work as a rep on the module:
“She has established excellent ways for students to give feedback to her throughout the academic year and she reports on it intelligently and constructively”
It is fantastic to hear the positive work that Reps are doing for their modules, courses, departments, faculties and UWE Bristol. Well done Joanna, you are a true student voice champion.
If you know of a Rep which you think deserves this award then make sure to nominate them through the quick and easy online submission form to give them a shot at winning lunch on us.
Nominations are also open for the Student Experience Awards, if you know an outstanding Student Rep or member of staff, you can nominate them here: https://www.thestudentsunion.co.uk/representation/reps/student-reps/sea/
