Day 1 was a busy day, Two UWE members battled hard in tough 100m heats as Jevaughn Gayle was first up clocking a 12.04 on his return to competitive racing with Zak Shaikh also flying through with a 12.00 in his heat.
Jake Southwood made his BUCS track debut in the 1500m and impressively hit a PB of 4:33.61 being pushed by a tough field of quality athletes.
Otis Mondir also made an appearance on day 1 in the 800m working hard for a season best of 2:02.23, an impressive time this early in the season!
Zak Shaikh made another appearance on the Saturday in the 400m with a time of 56.18 and Nick Jones in 54.04.
Day 2 and we saw Kirsty McBarnet making her BUCS outdoors debut smashing a 27.57 200m iinto a -2.5 headwind finishing 4th in her heat and a well-deserved season best.
Zak Shaikh who clearly must have been bored, stepped up for the 200m and hit a 24.82 again facing a tough -2.3 headwind.
Matt Atkin gave us a break from the track and jumped his way to a Long jump PB of 5.73, very impressive following a season held back by injury.
Day 2 was climaxed by the ever exciting 4 x 400m relay in which N. Jones(52.4) O. Mondir (54.4) J. Southwood (56.2) and Z. Shaikh (55.7) put down the first power of 10 time for UWE getting the batten round in 3:38.7.
Special mention to super fan and next years VP Elin Davies for her support over the entire weekend! Its also fitting that we thank Simmo Pitman and Matt Atkin who capped off a hard working year in their committee roles by attending their last BUCS competition as current UWE students. Both spent the weekend driving us around, giving us advice and ensuring a good time was had, they will both be massively missed in future competitions.
