We are delighted to announce that UWE Bristol has been selected to host the highly anticipated British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Conference 2018 in July.
The event, which will see staff and student officers from BUCS 160 member institutions come together, will be hosted in the Exhibition and Conference Centre (ECC) on Frenchay Campus from Tuesday 10 – Friday 13 July 2018.
All attendees will have access to UWE’s £5.5 million Centre for Sport facilities, ensuring that they can remain active throughout the week and will be staying in accommodation on campus, with access to evening social activities within The Students’ Union at UWE.
Professor Steve West, Vice-Chancellor at UWE, commented:
“We are delighted to have been chosen to host BUCS Conference for 2018. Bristol is one of the UK’s most diverse and vibrant cities and UWE, we hope you will agree, is an excellent location for Conference. We will be housing Conference within our established Exhibition and Conference Centre (ECC) which is located on our Frenchay Campus and is one of the largest of its kind in the South West.
“We will be working with BUCS in order to provide you with the best possible experience at Conference this year and who knows we might even be watching a World Cup Semi Final or two together. We look forward very much to welcoming you to the University of the West of England in July”
The theme of this year’s conference is to be announced in the coming weeks but delegates can expect a comprehensive programme of speakers and workshops centred on providing CPD opportunities, networking and developing the sector as a whole.
Erin Mills, VP Sport and Health of The Students’ Union, commented:
“It’s really exciting to announce that we’ll be hosting the BUCS Conference for 2018 at UWE. It’s such a fantastic opportunity to show off our facilities here on campus and inspire our students and sports clubs. We look forward to welcoming everyone to our campus in July.”
As part of the conference, UWE will also play host to the BUCS Awards Dinner on the evening of Thursday 12 July 2018 – celebrating all that is great about university sport and recognising success of student athletes, clubs, delivery programmes, the university workforce and member institutions throughout the 2017/18 academic year.
Vince Mayne, CEO at BUCS, commented on UWE being selected as the host venue:
“BUCS is delighted to be taking our annual conference to the University of the West of England (UWE). UWE has made significant investment in its campus infrastructure and we look forward to utilising the superb conference and sporting facilities.
“The opportunity to work with the team at UWE is very exciting and we’re sure that together we can deliver a great conference experience for our members.”
Delegate Bookings for BUCS Conference 2018 will open towards the end of April, with the information being published on the BUCS website.
