The UWE lacrosse women’s 1st team made the long journey down to Plymouth to play The University of St Mark & St John in their latest fixture, a traditionally tightly contested match, with the previous fixtures between the sides finishing 10-10 and 13-12 to UWE.
UWE unusually had a numbers advantage on Marjons, traveling strong as usual with 14 players in total, and first team call-ups for Emily Austin and Emily Hornbuckle. This advantage paid dividends as the UWE women started strong, with goals from first team captain Hannah Fox and Imy Lockhart on the 4G pitch.
A scrappy second quarter saw Marjon’s take the lead and some tempers to flare, but with several big saves from goalkeeper Amy Reeves and a veteran defense of Elizabeth Morgan, Hazel Ojo-Earl, Marjon’s attack was somewhat quelled.
The final two quarters saw further goals from Emily Hornbuckle and Erica Smith to nudge UWE into the lead and eventually hold on to win 10-7.
UWE will hope to continue this form after the Christmas break and push towards that promotion spot in the Western 2A division.
