Blog by Gabriella Martin, Women's Water Polo Captain - This Girl Can
Hi, I’m Gabriella Martin, and I’m the women’s water polo captain. I am also a second-year adult nursing student. I have been playing water polo for 6 years. I started playing water polo at my local club, which is a joint swimming and water polo club (Newton Abbot). I was finding swimming a little tedious, so decided to give water polo a try. I would now never go back to competitive swimming, and I wish that I had started water polo at a younger age. I enjoy it because it is a competitive and fun game with an amazing bunch of people. It’s also a great form of exercise that will keep you fit and trim.
We have a wide range of abilities on our team, from experienced players to absolute first timers. It helps if you are a strong swimmer. However, water polo can improve your swimming strength and ability. If you fancy a go, join our Facebook swimming and water polo group for up to date, weekly info – such as fixtures, socials, training times etc. It is also an opportunity for you to meet the team and ask any questions! Take a look at our Facebook page.
If you would like to see what water polo is all about, we have our Varsity match on 2 December 2017 at Hengrove Swimming pool. For more information about this, please visit http://www.varsityseries.com/varsity/fixtures/.
