UWE Model United Nations Report 2017-18

This year’s Model United Nations aimed to relieve the tensions between the United States Of America and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. This is the report for the conference with its passed and failed motions and its final resolution. 

1st session: 10:30-12:30

Participants; United States of America, State of Israel, French Republic, Russian Federation, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Republic of Poland, Republic of the Philippines, People’s Republic of China, Republic of Finland. 

1st motion put forward: 

The UN believes that the International Community shall remove any nuclear weapons to ease the tensions between the DPRK and the USA. Original motion suggests that over the next 13 years the nuclear powers will erase their nuclear artillery slowly and surely and aim to be nuclear free by 2030. 

1st Amendment: proposed you the State of Israel

States of DPRK and Republic of Iran receive sanctions on every disclosed and undisclosed enriched Uranium given to the said countries. UN force to be deployed in Iran and North Korea to investigate and enforce the ban.

2nd Amendment: proposed by the People’s Republic of China

Need State of Israel to state its nuclear artillery before enforcing the nuclear proliferation.

Proposal for 30 years to be the deadline for nuclear proliferation.

2nd Motion put forward by The United States of America

Only members who are in the permanent 5 of the Security Council will oversee nuclear proliferation.

End current UN missions and create a new task force to uphold a peace treaty between the People’s Republic of China, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, United States of America and Republic of Korea. 

Delegate for Republic of Finland leaves the Assembly. 
Delegate for Kingdom of Norway joins the Assembly. 

1st Amendment: proposed by the United States of America. 

Peace treaty between Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and Republic of Korea requires the removal of every weapon of mass destruction on the Korean Peninsula from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and the United States of America. This also states that as long as the peace treaty is upheld by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, then the UN sanction on the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and its imports of luxury goods will be ceased.

Removal of the Nuclear Weapons to be observed by only the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China.

Signature of Israel to be on the basis of bans on long and medium ranged weapons as well as a ban on nuclear material to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and Islamic Republic of Iran.

4th Amendment: proposed by Democratic People’s Republic of Korea

North Korea to sign on the basis that there is clarification on those who would enforce the peace treaty as well as guaranteed protection of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s private business interest.

Draft resolution

Original 3 motions passed in the earlier sessions with the addition of 4 new clauses as debated and agreed on by participating Nation States. 

•    Recommend talks of reunification can be considered once peace talks are completed.
•    UN Security Council is recommended to intervene in any case of infringement. 
•    Sporting transfers are opened up for the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea alongside peace talks. 
•    Recommend The state  of Japan observe proceedings with only personal security with representatives.
