Rep of the Month Award is part of our drive to reward and recognise our Student Reps. This award is given to a Rep who has gone above and beyond their duties to bring issues to the attention of staff, make positive changes and engage students in their academic experience.
May’s Rep of the Month is Andreea Brebenar. Andreea is a first year student studying Aerospace Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology. Andreea has received several nominations from her peers all praising her dedication to the role and helping others. Here is what Andreea’s peers said about her:
“I can honestly say that Andreea is a person who helps the others and care about people's opinions. She helped me with every problem I had and she did everything in her power to solve it. She is a very involved person and a very good Rep for the others students.”
“She has been an amazing student representative and has devoted her time in helping others including myself. I see her as the kind of person who puts a lot of value in giving and she values each person as an individual. She deserves to be nominated because people like her who devote to making a change in better are much appreciated. She really took the time to attend to my issue in the most professional way.”
Being a student rep not only helps the students from your course and faculty to have their voices heard, though Andreea has obviously achieved this, it is also a fantastic opportunity to develop your own skills. At the beginning of the year Andreea wanted to “improve [her] communication abilities and in the same time [she could] make new friends by getting to know many people in [her] course. It is an advantage for [her] the fact that [she gets] to know the people in [her] course and [she] can help them raise their concerns and make UWE a better place.” Alongside her caring nature her nominations showed that her professional and calm communication really made a difference to the students, so it seems Andreea is certainly achieving her aspirations. Keep up the good work!
