Sasha Chimbumu
Welcome to UWE Bristol, a few events to watch out for...
Hi everyone!
For those that do not know me, I am Sasha Chimbumu your BME Officer here at The Students' Union at UWE. I am currently in my second year studying law.
I would like to welcome all new and returning students to this academic year!
I hope you are keeping safe in this time of uncertainty. Whilst we are getting used to the new ‘norm’, I hope you are all still putting yourselves out there (even if it is mostly virtual). I’d like to inform you of a few events coming up.
I am very excited to let you know about the African Voices Forum (AVF) International Decade for People of African Descent (IDPAD) Summit 2021. The IDPAD is a United Nations initiative to address Afriphobia and systemic racism globally. Bristol's summit is being organised and hosted by the African Voices Forum in collaboration with UWE Bristol and other stakeholders, not only to help raise awareness and bring light to some of the issues many face on a daily basis but also to get everyone involved, better educated on the topic and importantly make sure people are heard.
As Black History Month is approaching, in light of Bristol’s IDPAD Summit, on the October 9 at 14:00, AVF will be hosting a conference call which will provide an opportunity to ask questions and seek a better understanding of what you would get out of attending the summit and what it is that AVF do. Additionally, this would be a great platform to voice and discuss all your opinions regarding Afriphobia and systemic racism.
Joining the panel will be
Adé Olaiya, AVF board member,
David Dravie-John, Vice Chair of AVF
various influential leaders
and last but not least, me Sasha Chimbumu, BME Officer
If you would like to attend, please feel free to email me at bmesasha.chimbum@outlook.com.

I hope to see you all there!
