Coming to university can be a daunting yet exciting time! The Mature Students Networking (MSN) Society is speicaly aimed at over 21's and students parents. We are here to help you settle in, socialise and network with other mature students and provide any additional help which you may find you'll need!
Mature students and student parents often have different interest, needs and concerns to their younger peers and that is what we're here to cater for, but one thing's for sure - you do not need to worry about mixing with the younger crowds or worrying if you will fit in or meet any friends. University is a unique experience which everyone should have a go at! If you feel out of sorts, left out, concerned, fancy a chat - absolutely anything, there is always somebody here who can help. You are not alone :)
We have an active facebook page which you can use to link in with other mature students and to keep in touch with the society. We will be doing coffee and cake socials regulary, at various locations and a monthly social event aimed at mature students, with events you can bring your partner or your family to to help your university life integrate with your real life!. Some ideas for events are show below:
Mini golf, comedy, live music, pub quizes, quaser, ice skating, ten pin bowling, karaoke, cinema/theatre/gigs, zoo trips, trips to Jump, meals out, halloween fancy dress, subsidised Christmas party - any more suggestions welcome, if we can do it, we will!!
We are a relatively new, reformed society and welcome input from you all. You can come to our meetings to have your say/suggest any ideas you may have. You can also have a chance to join our committee and help to make a real difference to the mature students experience. We're keen to recruit campus specific representitives to help us tailor the society to meet the needs of people at each campus.
Look out for special leaflets around each campus, join our Facebook page or follow us on twitter!
This Society is free and simple to join (just log in with your myUWE credentials, 'add to basket' at the top right and check out)
Look forward to meeting you all soon
