Welcome to the UWE Robotics Society
As a society we aim to bring together people interested in robotics and have fun while building robots and attending robotics events. We encourage people to join from all backgrounds whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced roboteer. We can also offer support for personal projects, uni work, and even just teach you a skill like CAD, soldering, and programming.

The Self Driving Car
What you can expect
Build
We offer a self driving car creation kit and we will be hosting sessions to build them. This is a great introduction to programming, electronics, and robotics for all abilities even if you have no prior experience with electronics, programming, or even if you don't know what a robot is. If you want to make a robot but don't know where to start or you would rather start with smaller steps, we can provide projects for you to work on or if you have a robot project you want to make or learn about, we will help you make your idea a reality. We can offer help for every stage of creation from concept to building to end testing.
Fight
There are opportunities to participate in many competitions and casual robot combat events held in and around Bristol. We participate and host an event for both 150g (antweight) and 1.5kg (beetleweight) robots. Our £20 robot combat kit allows you to create an antweight robot but beetleweights require a bit more work and can be incredibly varied so we don't offer a kit. We do have a buying guide and some basic knowledge for building a beetleweight which can be found here. Our beetle weight (1.5kg) event at UWE last year drew in over 30 competitors from around the UK, some of which had previously competed on BBC Robot Wars. Other events are organised by other organisations including University of Bristol BEEES, Bristol Bot Builders, and the Fighting Robot Association.
Learn
Making robots requires a wide range of skills, from maths to design. But don't let that scare you. We can teach you all the necessary skills to get you going.
We can teach
- Programming
- Computer Aided Design (CAD) & 3D Printing
- Electronics
- Soldering
- Other Engineering/Science Skills
