We have 4 strong teams that compete every Wednesday in the BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) League against other Universities in the South West Region.
After competing in a strong league last season, our 1st team were relagated and return to Wester 2b. A league they won two years ago.
All 4 teams train once a week on UWE's brand new state of the art 4G pitch at Lockleaze. Training takes place on Monday evening's - 1st & 2nd teams 6-8pm / 3rd & 4th teams 8-10pm. Due to the 1st team's continued success, they will also train on Friday mornings 7:30am - 9am on the Astro Turf at Frenchay Campus. These extra hours will hopefully serve the boys well in their bid to gain promotion back to Division 1.
In recent years, UWE Men's Football Club has come on leaps and bounds in many ways.Last year we proudly introduced our first ever full club tracksuit and are pleased to announce that this will be on offer again for the upcoming season. This will be joined by a new club kit that has been designed by the committee throughout the summer and will feature kit sponsors Unite theunion - Britain's biggest trade union.
Unite's sponsorship has enabled the club to buy new warm up tops, sweatshirts and match balls, as well as giving the club's social fund a huge boost, which will allow us to put on more club days out. Last year we took 30 players to Cheltenham Racecourse for the January meet.
Last year saw another first for the club, as we had 4 non-student managers in charge of each of our teams. This season, we will have 5 full-time coaches across our 4 teams, something usually associated with the top sporting universities in the country. An excellent example of a club going in the right direction..to the very top!
Training has also improved drastically, not only are we training on a modern 4G pitch, but the induction of a training handbook by our Head Of Football and UEFA A LIcensed coach, Mel Davies, will develop our players' fitness and technical abilities.
We will also be briniging back the Christmas dinner with the UWE Women's Netball Team!
PAM PAM - the place to be on a Wednesday night in Bristol. UWE Men's Football will once again feature in the VIP section of the go to club for UWE sports teams after their Wednesday night fixtures. Our social secretaries will again be working hard to organise a number of themed night's throughout the year, such as Oktoberfest, Halloween, white shirt party, Christmas doo, and a number of other fancy dress and arranged nights out.
The club went on tour to Croatia (ILoveTour) last season and will be going again in the 2018/19 season.
Futsal was the name chosen by FIFA for the only version of 5-aside football that it supports, when it took over as the governing body of the sport in 1989.
Futsal has it’s origins in the South American countries of Uruguay and Brazil where, in the 1930’s, two versions of small sided football were being played. Futsal is now a part of the football club's offering at UWE and also compete in BUCS competition throught the season.
