BUKC Mains / Rookies Championships
The Mains Championship is the heart of the competitive racing in the BUKC with a format designed to test driving skill and team work as well. Teams of four drivers come together to represent UWE and battle it out against the very best from universities from across the country.
The Test Days:
Prior to taking part in the BUKC, all the drivers must take part in at least one BUKC test day. This is in order to get used to the nature and speed of the karts, considered one of the fastest arrive-and-drive fleets in the world.
Every team that aims to take part in the BUKC mains championship has to take part in the qualifiers. Taking place at Whilton Mill Zulu circuit, the qualifiers take the top 54 teams over the course of the weekend and place them into the mains. The top teams are choosen based on their average finishing position from 6 out of 8 races. For the teams that don't get selected for the mains championship, the enter the equally competitive rookies championship. The format for qualifiers is as followed:
- 4 x 15 minute practice / qualifying
- 4 x 20 minute race
- 4 x 25 minute race
The Mains Championship:
The eight round championship takes place over 4 days with two rounds taking place at each event. At each event, each driver will compete in one 25 minute sprint race and one 1 hour endurance race, competing with a team mate.
The Rookies Championship:
The four round championship also takes place over 4 days with one round taking place at each event. Although there are less rounds then the mains championship there is just as much racing. At each event each driver will compete in a 20 minute practice / qualifying determining positions for the 25 minute race.
