Candidate for the position of NUS Conference Delegates
For a better mental health service that's better for UWE.
My manifesto consists of four key points, all focusing on greater mental health provision within UWE and nationally.
1. Push the NUS to put more money into lobbying Universities for greater mental health services.
2. Push the NUS to lobby the government to put more money into mental heath services to combat the increasing issue of poor mental health provision.
3. Advocate for charity and volunteer based mental health organisations - such as Off The Record and Nightline - to be supported by the NUS and for them to advertise the vital work they are doing in communities and Universities alike.
4. Push for more emphasis on mental health plans from the NUS, rather than sporadic mental health reports and lumping mental health in with other health and liberation campaigns.
Mental heath issues affect around 78% of students, it's time to hold a conversation nationally that is respectful and compassionate. But this cannot be done without first creating an environment where the problem with student mental health support is dicussed openly, pragmatically and throughly.
If these issues resonate with you, I urge you to vote for me as your first preference to represent your voice at NUS National Conference this year. Together, we can make a difference, but it all starts with promoting the cause loudly and proudly on a major stage. We will fight for a better mental health service to ensure it is better for everyone.
