That year we won the Diversity and the Campaign of the year Award, awarded by NUS Wales. This meant that we were among the best preforming Students’ Unions in the country. I want to bring my experiences to good use and support students at UWE. My Priorities this year consists of 5 elements, Learner Voice, Education, Support & Safety, Events & Activities, and Allying; to which I have created 10 promises which I aim to work at. 1, Ensure that current Learner Voice streams are effective; I will meet with LGBT+ students to see if they feel like their voices are being heard and work with the relevant people to make changes if necessary.
, Develop great relationship LGBT+ students and students as a whole so I can represent them through the Executive Committee.
, Support the LGBT+ Society to ensure ongoing social events that students can attend, including non-alcoholic activities.
, Hold the University accountable and work with them to support our LGBT+ community. Previously in college we introduced gender neutral toilets and a training programs for lecturers to be educated around LGBT+.
, Ensure that students on campus are educated on what LGBT+ means through workshops and events. Promoting all elements of LGBT+ rather than just "LGBT", such as asexual, pan, poly and sooo many more.
, Work with the welfare officer on ensuing that there is support for LGBT+ students suffering from mental health illnesses.
, Ensure that LGBT+ students feel comfortable and safe on campus. As the LGBT+ Officer I would personally support students who feels uncomfortable or at threat on campus.
, Support the NUS LGBT+ committee's campaign to lobby against the NHS cuts affecting our gender identity clinics and other LGBT+ services.
, Work with other liberation officers especially the Disabilities Officer, Black Minority Ethnic Officer and International Officer to ensure that all LGBT+ students are engaged in LGBT+ activities.
