Candidate for the position of Community and Welfare Officer
Make change happen, vote for Shannon.
I have studied Animation at UWE for two years now and I want to use my skills and experience as a student to do my part in ensuring that UWE is a better place for everyone.
My priorities:
Housing issues: I will work and campaign with ACORN Ethical Lettings Charter to get fairer tenancy agreements and price caps for students in Bristol.
Food options: UWE has listened to your need for more Vegan, Vegetarian and healthier food and has improved its range of options. However, more needs to be done, especially when it comes to the variety of hot food options. I will achieve this by coming directly to you and asking what food YOU want to see in your cafeteria and by setting up a team of students to come up with ideas and review progress.
Sustainability and Mental Health: In the past year UWE and the SU have won awards for its sustainability and there has been great improvements in the area of mental health. These are both areas of community and welfare that are a great priority to me and I will work closely with the Green Team, Sustainability Officer and Vice President Community and Welfare to ensure more improvements are made.
Safe travel: I want to help make travel to university as safe as possible. As a Bower Ashton student I know that the main route people use to walk or bike to and from university is very poorly lit at night and off the ‘beaten track’. I want to know if there are any similar issues at Frenchay, Glenside or Gloucester and I will campaign and lobby for the council to do something about lighting up our routes!
Extenuating Circumstances and Suspended Studies: It is my belief that the support and information given to students using these services could be greatly improved. I will work with people that have used these services to improve the information and guidance given in terms of support, finance and education.
YOUR VOICE: I will hold office hours at the City Campus, Glenside and Frenchay and online office hours throughout the week to ensure that all students have the opportunity to come to me with their ideas or concerns. I will also hold regular surveys at each campus.
A vote for me is a vote to make the change you want to see happen.
