Candidate for the position of NUS Conference Delegates
Do some Molly - Molly for NUS
Hey, I’m Molly, and I’m running to be one of your next NUS Delegates. I’m currently involved with the Labour Society, and am their Equalities and Participation officer. Since being in my role, the society has seen a drastic increase of involvement with women and minorities thanks to our great outreach and events with speakers from various social and ethnic backgrounds.
Whilst the NUS has no shortage of encouragement and support for all groups, I’m running as delegate to ensure the NUS stays diverse, representative of British universities and focuses specifically student issues. In recent years, the NUS has come under criticism for some of the over-politicised views the former president and other delegates hold. With the costs of tuition and living rising, we need to speak up and work together more than ever and it’s clear the NUS has become disengaged with the concerns of the average student and for it to have any future it must serve us first and foremost.
I’m also running to represent all UWE students that are sick of the universities image in the media - or lack of. UWE has been continuously snubbed by national student groups - only months ago at the Labour Students conference, the delegates from UWE were turned away as they hadn’t heard of it. I will help put UWE on the map and be the voice of our students, to improve our image and reputation nationally, and through that, internationally.
I also want to fight for better funding of the humanities and arts across all universities. Having studied Politics last year, I’ve seen first hand how students are forced to rely on long outdated books that are older than them, and this isn’t just UWE - in many universities across the country, arts and humanities departments are drastically underfunded. I will help encourage universities across the UK to increase funding and improve the vital resources needed for studies.
Whether you’re affected by any of these issues personally or not, I hope you’ll consider voting for me!
Thanks!
