Hi I'm Derya, a second year Bio-Medical Science student and the President of the Debating Society. Last year I had the privilege of serving UWE students as a delegate at the NUS national conference. I achieved a lot in my time as a delegate, namely, submitting a motion to conference to have a review into the NUS no platform policy to assess it’s compatibility with freedom of speech on campus, submitting and passing a motion in support of dual GP registration for students and speaking to help force through the biggest democratic reform in the NUS’ history. This year, I want to achieve more for UWE.
The NUS has made significant progress in the last year but there is still much to do, that’s why I aim to double down and focus on making the NUS less of a petty political organisation and more of a relevant institution that is successful in fighting for students.
