Our Advice Centre provides independent advice, guidance, support, and information to all 33,000 UWE Bristol students. Advice is offered across our three campus locations. Advice is offered in person, via email and telephone. On average we open over 1,000 cases every year. We are looking for both an experienced Adviser and a Trainee Adviser to join our Advice service, both working on a full time basis (37 hours per week, Monday-Friday).
We’re hiring for a Full Time Advisor and a Full Time Trainee Advisor to join our Advice Centre.
As The Students’ Union at UWE are a separate organisation to UWE Bristol, our advice service here at The Students’ Union at UWE provides independent advice, guidance, support, and information to all 33,000 UWE Bristol students.
Advice is offered from the main advice centre at The Students’ Union on Frenchay campus, and weekly from The Students’ Union offices at Glenside and Bower Ashton. Advice is offered in person, via email and telephone. As The Students’ Union at UWE is a separate organisation to UWE Bristol, giving this independent service to students is essential to represent and empower students in their academic and student experiences. On average we open over 1,000 cases every year.
Our main areas of advice are accommodation and academic.
Students are supported by the Advice Centre through all stages of UWE disciplinary matters, including preparing paperwork, reading draft statements, and accompanying students to panel meetings.
Annually, the Advice Service will assist The Students’ Union with organisational wide events/ projects such as Welcome, Elections and student awards.
The Advice Service holds the Advice Quality Standard, following a recent audit by Recognizing Excellence. This quality mark shows that we provide a high-quality service, with many areas of good practice being highlighted.
Our Advice Service is made up of two part time generalist Advisers, who report to, and are supported by, the Advice Service Manager.
We are currently looking for 1 Full Time Advisor to join our current Advisers, and 1 Full Time Trainee Advisor who will embark on a training and development plan with a view of becoming a Full Time Advisor within an agreed timeframe
We are looking for approachable and personable individuals who align with our organisational values and behaviours.
We’re looking for an Advisor with experience of advising people on academic, accommodation, financial or welfare matters within a confidential environment, and experience of manging own caseload.
We’re also looking for a Trainee Advisor with a theoretical understanding, or experience of giving information and/or providing support to people within a confidential environment; who is looking to develop their skills and experience with a view of becoming a Full Time Advisor. This would be an ideal opportunity for a Graduate with some experience of an advisor environment, or someone looking to develop and harness and develop their current advisory skills and experience.

Full Time Adviser:
*The postholder may be required to work at, or from any of the Union’s establishments (Bower Ashton Campus, Glenside Campus etc)
Full Time Trainee Adviser:
Given the nature of the posts, weekend and evening working may be required with notice to achieve the desired outcomes at key times of the year, this can be outlined during interview.
