As I say goodbye to my old team I want to look back on their main highlights throughout this past year.

As I say goodbye to my old team I want to look back on their main highlights throughout this past year to celebrate all the great things we’ve done.
Charlie Roper
Students’ Union President
Voter Registration for the General Election 2015
Over 500 students in Student Village registered across many days of promotion, rallies and door knocking. To help encourage students to register to vote I set up a Q&A event for our guest speaker Rick Edwards on his book ‘None of the Above – your vote is your voice, don’t stay silent’ and set up a hustings event with local candidates. Both events were successful with high turnout from the student body.
The Only Way is Wessex?
Prompted engagement from Wessex and First Bus about improving services for students. Now we have later running bus services, more frequent buses, more reliable buses, changes to timetables and routes and also 30% discount for students with any student card.
Get the Vote Out!
Engagement from voters on social media, communicating the importance of voting which led to a high voter turnout on campuses, especially Frenchay where a polling station was placed. To encourage students to vote I organised a visit by Natalie Bennett (Leader of the Green Party) for a Q&A talk - this was attended by over 500 students and staff.
Roisin Greenup
Vice President Sports
The Glow Games
My aim was to break down barriers to engagement – emphasis on fun and enjoyment | recreational NOT competitive sport. I did this by setting up two separate one off events held in CFS Sports Hall and recorded level of engagement of students prior and following event Oct Event 61 people | March event 90 people.
Women in sport
My goal was to encourage women participation within sports to increase the number of women in sports clubs. I put on only women ‘try it, do it’ sessions for one week. Recorded women prior involved in sports clubs prior to now.
Cycling Campaign
Working with the University to promote active travel, more events organised throughout fresher’s period to engage new students to active travel, organising leisure rides, promoting awareness of participation programmes [OTW]. One off Leisure rides, free bicycle repair days, free bicycle maintenance workshops, Bicycle loan schemes for all students
Joshua Clark
Vice President Education
Library Loans and Fines My second highlight is making positive changes to UWE’s Library Loans and Fines policy. We increase the length of time students are able to take out books from UWE Libraries as well as reclassifying many items from ‘core texts’ to being ‘medium loan’ books
Student Rep Conference 2015
My first highlight is organising and hosting the Student Rep Conference 2015. The event was held in the ECC with over 100 Reps signed up to attend.
Glenside Student Centre
With a 10% difference in satisfaction from Frenchay myself and Scarlett Vice President Community & Welfare were keen to develop this campus. We worked together along with Glenside staff and students to produce a series of coffee mornings and introduced a new games room, coffee area, craft corner, IT suite and a new menu for the bar.
Hannah Khan
Vice President Societies and Communications
SU On Tour
The concept was that of an SU ‘coming to you’- promoting the impact of UWESU to students in various locations of the university we would not normally be and not the current SU space. The project was successful for a first run with a total of 750 interactions with students across one week.
Academic Societies
This year thirteen new academic societies set up. I have developed more relationships with academic staff and engaged them with what we do to support academic societies, working together to offer the best support to the student societies.
Society Development
Including the academic societies, we have had 24 new societies set up this year. We hosted the biggest end of year Societies Awards ceremony in UWESU history, with more societies represented than ever before and 160 people in attendance.
Scarlett Oliver
