What is the Bike Loan Scheme?
The Bike Loan Scheme is an initiative which aims to keep you active and also helps you to reduce your impact on the planet. With the scheme, you hire a bike to use for the year, which must be returned to The Students’ Union at the end of each academic year.
The bike loan includes a D lock to keep your bike secured and a set of lights to make sure you are safe and visible on the roads.
What’s the cost?
The cost for a year is £70 but all you need to pay is £50 for the rest of this academic year (non-refundable) and also a £40 deposit, which is refundable, before collecting the bike. There are 86 bikes available, five of which are available free of charge for short term use (up to two weeks) from the Centre for Sport.
We would also recommend buying a helmet and high visibility clothing to keep safe while cycling.
How do I get involved?
To help us make the scheme covid-secure we are asking you to complete a hire form online and send it to firstname.lastname@example.org. We will then get in touch with when and where to pay for and how to collect your bike. You will also receive a cycling safety video to watch and an instructional video on how to secure your bike using the D-lock provided. The hire is subject to our terms and conditions.
