    What is the Sports Executive Committee?

    The Sports Executive Committee is a group of student volunteers who work alongside the Vice President Sports and Health. Together, they help shape the direction of student sport at UWE, ensuring every athlete has a voice in decisions that affect them. Each Executive Committee member has their own remit, from chairing monthly meetings to supporting Varsity, leading campaigns, increasing participation and improving communication across Team UWE.

    Your Voice in Student Sport

    The Sports Executive exists to represent sports clubs and their members. Representatives gather feedback and ideas to improve the sporting experience at UWE through club engagement, student feedback and Tell the Sports Exec submissions.

    Each term, we'll ask for feedback on all club members' sporting experience, including participation, club activities, facilities, events, wellbeing, and opportunities for improvement. Your views will help the Sports Executive Committee and Centre for Sport make student sport better for everyone at UWE.

    What are the roles?

    Chair

    The Chair leads the Sports Executive Committee, ensuring the team is organised, accountable, and delivering on priorities that matter to students.

    • Works with VP Sports and Health and SU staff to ensure the full and efficient functioning of the Executive Committee.
    • Co-develop annual priorities with the VP Sports & Health, such as Varsity, participation and campaigns.
    • Works with the other SU Sport Executive Committee Members to help aid their roles and events.
    • Chairs monthly meetings and sets agendas.
    • Ensures a high standard of communication is held within the executive group, obtaining agenda items from other members and calling meetings outside of the schedule if necessary.
    • Works closely with the committees and sport members to help improve the student experience of sport.
    • Escalates key issues to the VP Sports & Health where needed.

    Varsity Officer

    The Varsity Officer leads on the student experience of Varsity, helping to build excitement, engagement, and a strong TeamUWE atmosphere.

    • Lead student engagement for Varsity, including themes, activations, and fan experience.
    • Recruit and coordinate a Varsity volunteer team.
    • Organise pre-Varsity activities, such as sign making, warm-up series and hype events.
    • Work with SU staff to support delivery and logistics.
    • Engage clubs and students in Varsity participation and support.
    • Attend Varsity and support on the day.
    • Gather feedback to improve future Varsity events.

    Campaigns Officer

    The Campaigns Officer leads on key sport-related campaigns, using sport as a platform to raise awareness and drive positive change.

    • Deliver key campaigns including Movember and Rainbow Laces.
    • Plan campaign timelines, activities, and engagement opportunities.
    • Work with clubs to increase participation in campaigns.
    • Collaborate with the Communications Officer to promote campaigns.
    • Support the development of new campaigns based on student needs.
    • Track engagement and impact of campaign activity.

    Participation Officer

    The Participation Officer works to increase student involvement in sport and physical activity, with a focus on accessible and inclusive opportunities (MOVE).

    • Work with MOVE staff to increase attendance and engagement.
    • Identify barriers to participation using student feedback and data.
    • Support initiatives such as Pick n Play and Give It A Go sessions.
    • Develop opportunities for underrepresented student groups.
    • Collaborate with clubs to widen access into sport.
    • Use participation data to inform improvements.

    Communications Officer

    The Communications Officer leads how TeamUWE sport is promoted, recognised, and shared with students.

    • Create and manage the monthly Sports Exec Round Up on TeamUWE Bristol Instagram.
    • Support promotion of campaigns, Varsity, and participation opportunities.
    • Work with SU Marketing and student media to amplify content.
    • Ensure consistent and engaging communication across sports clubs.
    • Support Exec members with messaging and content ideas, such as the MOVE with the Sports Exec Instagram Series.

    What will you do?

    • Represent sports clubs and their members, raising feedback and ideas to improve the sporting experience at UWE using the monthly sport experience feedback form and Tell the Sports Exec.
    • Support campaigns and events, such as Sports Conference, Varsity, awareness campaigns like Movember and Rainbow Laces, and Sports Awards.
    • Work with the VP Sports and Health to ensure inclusivity, accessibility, and wellbeing remain central to student sport.
    • Ensure clear communication between clubs, committees, and the Students' Union.
    • Celebrate and promote student sport achievements.

    Commitment required

    • Attend meetings as regularly as the Chair and VP Sports and Health feel necessary, typically monthly. These meetings will be held in person, but a hybrid approach can be used if necessary.
    • Support 2–3 campaigns/events across the year.
    • Contribute to the meeting agenda and discussion from your area.
    • Actively gather and share student feedback from clubs and the wider student population on all forms of sport here at UWE.
    • Attend Sports Conferences throughout the year.
    • Commitment is flexible and designed to fit around your studies and sport.

    • Any current UWE student who is a member of a sports club.
    • We welcome applications from students of all backgrounds, levels of sporting experience, and identities. Passion for sport and improving the student experience is what matters most!
