The club welcomes archers of all abilities, whether you have never touched a bow before, or are a competitive archer looking to compete in BUCS, we can help you develop your skills during our sessions. Whilst many members take up archery as a recreational sport, we also compete at BUCS and inter-university regional competitions (SWWU). Both have categories based on experience level, so it’s the perfect opportunity to try competing for the first time.
Term 1 and 2 sessions are indoor only, however from this year we will also be shooting in term 3 at Hillside (see below for timings). In addition to this, many of our members also practice at local ranges.
Outside of practice we also organise regular social events such as movie nights, bowling and cafe crawls, and often spend evenings in the Student's Union after sessions.
We are a small but very welcoming club, and often take a light-hearted approach to archery, including group chats dedicated to funny shots and excuses, and special end of term sessions where we often shoot dart board targets, balloons, or anything our members bring along (within reason)!
UWE Archery in the wild (sometimes not being that serious...):
Come along and try out archery at our free taster sessions! No previous experience is required and no need to sign up, just show up on the dates below within the given timeslot:
Sunday 28th September: 09:30-11:00 Tuesday 30th September: 16:30-18:00
All sessions will be hosted at Centre of Sport, Frenchay Campus, and more information can be found on our Instagram page nearer the time about what to bring or wear.
If you have any questions about previous archery experience and the need to do the beginners course please drop us a message.
For people wishing to join the sport for the first time, you will need to attend one of our beginners' courses before purchasing a membership. These normally run in October. You do not need a club membership for the duration of the course but will need to have paid the beginners' course fee.
You can sign up for either a Tuesday OR Sunday beginner's course. These courses will run from their start date for 5 consecutive weeks on the specified day of the week. You cannot mix and match Tuesdays / Sundays sessions on the course. Please stick to the day you purchased a ticket for. You must turn up to all sessions to pass the course. After succesfully completing this, you must buy a full membership to continue shooting for the year in order to cover your AGB affiliation etc.
Beginner's Course Dates Autumn 2025:
Each course is running for 5 weeks straight for the dates below. Remember to turn up only to your designated day of the week attending every session.
Tuesday Course: 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th of October and the 4th of November: 16:00-18:00
Sunday Course: 12th, 19th, 26th of October and the 2nd, 16th of November: 09:00-11:00
Unfortunately, due to our BUCS competitions, these will be the only beginners courses offered for the 2025-26 academic year, so if you miss them you will have to wait until next September to join.
How to sign up for the Beginner's Course:
When a beginner's course is available, you will see a Beginner's Course ticket for sale under 'Memberships'. After which, simply turn up to your designated sessions and we will sign you in. Anyone who attends that has not purchased the course will not be able to take part.
If you change your mind or find yourself unable to attend the course, please email the SU to request a refund before the beginning of the course so that we can offer the space to another student.
More information about the above memberships will become available when the club restarts in the next academic year.
If you are an experienced archer but do not have an ArcheryGB number, please email our committee at uwearchery@gmail.com to discuss attending an evaluation with our coach before purchasing a membership.
PLEASE NOTE: We are unable to provide Alumni members with an ArcheryGB membership as they do not count as university students.
Sessions for Terms 1 and 2 will be held at the Centre for Sport on the UWE Frenchay Campus. For all terms, please remember to sign up at the bottom of this page so we can confirm numbers. This is especially important for term 3 when we need to transport the relevant kit to Hillside.
