UWE Gymnastics is an environment for everyone! We welcome new members of any background and ability. Whether you have never done gymnastics before and just want to give it a go, or have been competing at an advanced level for years, theres a place for you! Our training sessions are great fun, let you gain new skills with help from the coaches, and also allow for time to practice what you like by using the available equipment we have at the gym.
If you decide you want to compete with us too, thats awesome! Have a scroll down to the 'COMPETITION TEAM' section below.
On top of training and competitions, we also host socials almost every week! These are such a fun way to spend time with and get to know your teammates. We often have fun themes and dress up socials so get your creativity flowing!!
- Our main Wednesday training sessions are held at Bristol Hawks Gymnastics Club, the home of Olympic Gymnast Claudia Fragapane. Our sessions are run by Level 3+ coaches and allow full use of all gymnastics equipment.
Our current sessions times are as follows:
Every Monday: 14.15 - 15.45
Every Wednesday- 14:30 - 16:00
Bristol Hawks training facility is able to be reached by bus routes from both Frenchay and Glenside campuses by the 46. As well as several bus routes from the city centre for those based there, including, 46, 48 and 49. The nearest stop from the gymnastics facility is Robertson Road, approximately a 5 minute walk.
The nearest train station is Stapleton Road, which is about a 3 minute walk from the facility. It runs frequent trains to Filton Abbey Wood, Redland and Bristol Temple Meads.
Typically at the start of the year, members of committee will travel from Frenchay campus, so don't worry about finding the club.
This membership gets you training for the whole academic year, every Monday and Wednesday at the SU Activity Studio and Bristol Hawks Gymnastics Club. Training is coached by fully qualified coaches, with sessions structured for you to learn skills safely and effectively whilst still having the ability to choose what you would like to work on. You will also receive a UWE Gymnastics T-shirt with every membership (when ordered by the end of October) and will also get access to attend all of our social events throughout the year!
This membership is intended for those who wish to compete with the team at competitions, includes everything in the Standard Membership plus discounted entry fees and travel fees to five UGC Competitions and BUCS.
Competitions are not a mandatory part of joining the club, but just a fun extra wayt to bond as a team, meet people from other universities and travel the country with your friends. One of the biggest questions we get is do you have to tryout for the competition team, and the answer is no! Competitions are open to all abilities from complete beginner to national standard. Our coaches and captain can help support you in making routines and finding out what level would suit you best.
Its also good to note that while we would love participation is as many competitions as possible, it is not required for you to attend every competition if you have purchased the competitive membership. Come to what you can!
We have two main competition leagues which we compete in and these are BUCS, (British University Championships) and UGC, (University Gymnastics Cup).
We have competed at BUCS for the last 8 years. This is typically the biggest competition of the year with clubs from all over the country, ran over two days which means we spend the weekend away! We have achieved lots of great positions over the years, and rankings in 1st place in some of our categories.

The University Gymnastics Cup is split into two regional leagues and we compete in the South League. This usually consists of four regional competitions and national finals at the end of the season. We have achieved several medals across the levels in the 25/26 season including some individual South League and National League medals. Any level of gymnast is welcome to compete and the team is supportive of everyone who wants to compete and we always have fun at competitions. Check out their website for more information about the competitions.

Socials are a great part of the club that allow you to bond with your teammates outside of the gym. We are a very social club with socials almost every week during term time, and lots of fun for everyone! There is something suited for everyone, from the traditional sports night outs or sober socials to places such as Ninja Warrior, trampoline parks, team dinners out and bowling. Drinking is never forced or compulsory at any social event we host, and we have members who don't drink and still attend sports night outs.
