Men's rugby at UWE has so much to offer. The chance to represent either of our two competitive teams and get stuck into socials, every Wednesday. All abilities, all welcome.
These are our the club's core values. UWE Mens Rugby Union aims to deliver rugby for players of all callibre and ability across both teams that train, play and work together, on and off the field. We welcome players of all abilities and are confident there is a placer in our community for anyone. UWE rugby allows for a number of social and fundraising opportunities throughout the year. All teams will be playing on Wednesdays, with the 1st and 2nd XV competing in BUCS leagues throughout the year.
Your UWE Rugby Membership fee will give you a chance to represent either of our teams every week in fixtures. Also access to top level training with Bristol Bears community coaches, strength and conditioning coaching and access to physio sessions if injured. Furthermore your kit is included within the membership (As detailed below). You will also be covered for travel costs for our away fixtures.
All competitive kit must be purchased from Surridge Sport due to the Student Unions Contract.
New Players membership (shorts, socks) - £105
Returners Membership (No kit included) - £70
Membership also includes Touch rugby sessions on Thursdays
We recommend anyone who didn't get any kit last year also purchase the freshers membership.
There are also many different items of clothing that are provided by Surridge Sport, which can be found on their website, and they are to be purchased individually.
All three teams train twice a week. On Mondays and Thursdays we train at Hillside Gardens on their state of the art 4G rugby pitch. 15 min walk away from Frenchay Campus and a single bus journey away from the City. We will be running walking buses from Frenchay Campus at the start of the year to help you find your way to these locations, please keep an eye on our Facebook for details.
All fixtures across all teams will be taking place on a Wednesday. Home games for the 1st XV and 2nd XV are held at Lockleaze Sports Centre with hundreds of spectators watching from the terrace each week. A coach will be provided for Away fixtures, departing from Frenchay Campus.
1st XV play in the BUCS Western Tier 2.
2nd XV play in the BUCS Western Tier 3.
We use the Heja app to show your availability for fixtures as well, details about this will be given at the start of the year.

A strong team are only as strong as their socials. And here at UWE Rugby, we think our socials are pretty strong. Socials are a chance for everyone to get together as a team and get to know each other better to grow the bonds between us as a club and meet new people outside of the club as well. Socials will take place every Wednesday night, organised by our social secs and will be posted on our Facebook group page. We attend the weekly sports night at Pam Pam's Bristol, Organised by Sharkies, not before meeting all together at The White Harte. You can purchase your tickets on Fixr. There will be other social events such as days out to events such as Race Days and away trips for the Six Nations. Furthermore we will be having charity events, dinners and awards evenings throughout the year.
At UWE Rugby we do not partake in initiations. It is not a part of our club culture and it is not an activity that we condone.
