Impact of the Supreme Court Ruling on participation in Sport
Thank you to all students and staff who have engaged with us so far in navigating the challenges of the Supreme Court Ruling (April 2025). The ruling has brought anxiety and uncertainty to many students and staff with the possibility that their experiences at UWE Bristol might change. You can find the Students Union Statement here.
Changes in Sport
The Students’ Union at UWEs Sports Clubs are affiliated to their relevant National Governing Body (NGB). Where the NGB for the sport has a policy on gender eligibility, this has to be followed by our Sports Clubs. If the relevant National Governing Body does not have a policy, the relevant International Federation policy or position as communicated on gender eligibility shall be followed. For Sports Clubs taking part in British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) Competitions, the relevant NGB guidance can be found here

BUCS Fixtures:
BUCS fixtures take place on Wednesday afternoons, with travel for away fixtures potentially clashing with scheduled morning teaching. All lectures should be recorded, and UWE Bristol is committed to avoiding timetabling Undergraduate teaching on a Wednesday afternoon where possible. If you have timetabled teaching activity on a Wednesday afternoon, please speak to your Programme Leader as soon as possible to discuss flexibility for this.
Firstly, don’t let it hinder your development. Speak to the injury clinic to get advice on what to do.
The Clinics are supervised clinics, so expect 2nd and 3rd year placement students from the BSc Sports Rehabilitation course manage your injury whilst having a supervisor overseeing your treatment.

Head & Neck Injuries: It is an individuals responsibility to ensure they report any injuries, including head injuries using the accident form. Especially regarding suspected concussion injuries, it is the individuals responsibility to ensure they follow the Graduated Return to Activity and Sport programme to return to activity when safe to do so.
