UWE Sport is Sport for ALL!

Heya, I'm Poppy! I have been part of UWE for four years, based across Glenside and Frenchay, studying Sports Rehabilitation. I had a very active upbringing, participating in a variety of sports ranging from netball and horse riding to synchronised swimming and hockey. I currently play water polo and rugby and have represented these at UWE- bringing to my attention the importance of both exercise and the inclusivity it provides.

I want to be your next VP Sport and Health.  Being a part of rugby and water polo at UWE, and standing in various committee positions within water polo, has allowed me to understand how clubs at UWE operate and how to work within an elected team. In addition, I have experience working in the SU opportunities team which has allowed me to learn where best to signpost students for further help to achieve their goals.

Objectives:

  • Promote local sports teams/clubs to students at UWE and help organise friendlies with them in addition to other universities.
  • Advocate for the provision of essential trauma equipment; spinal boards,  collars, etc, across UWE Sport facilities - Hillside Gardens, Lockleaze Sports Centre, and Centre for Sport.
  • Promote local charity events relating to sports to UWE students.
  • Create links between creative courses (e.g. photography) and sports clubs to increase the promotion of sports and the production of media content.
  • Promote the student-led Sports Rehabilitation clinic to all sports clubs’ students and aid in its accessibility.
  • Increase nutritional support and information across the university.
  • Raise awareness and support of issues within sports, including mental health, and performance pressures- introduce courses such as sport psychology, physiotherapy, and sport rehabilitation to clubs to increase support for the athletes and experience for the students.
  • Aid in organising charity sporting events run by sports clubs making them more accessible to the general student population.
  • Create an online forum for students to discuss wants/needs regarding sports and physical activity at UWE.
  • Increase awareness and accessibility of UWE MOVE across all campuses.
    • Broaden UWE MOVE to include a wider range of sports currently only represented in a competitive environment at UWE. Encourage sports clubs to include a social sport aspect in their clubs.
  • Create a more connected and unified TEAMUWE. Encouraging cross-club interaction over social media and at fixtures.
  • Increase awareness of BUCS fixtures not only on a Wednesday but also weekend fixtures e.g. American Football and Water polo.
