Who am I:
- 3rd year Robotics student
- President of The Wargames, Roleplay and Cardgames society and The Videogames society
- (as well as Treasurer, Vice President and Sustainability officer previously)
- Student Rep every year for my course
What does this give me:
- Very familiar with how the SU operates, the good and the bad
- I know how it is to leader societies and struggles committees face
- Experience representing the views of students as a whole
What will I do:
My main aim is to make things easier for societies to run and improve how the system works for operating them, as well get more SU sponsored events to help promote them as well as great times for everyone.
How will I do this:
- Re work committee training
- A lot of the time it isn’t as useful or not properly enforced to be done so people don’t know all the process and harder for new societies get access
- To fix this I want to split training up and have more guides added to the website, with splitting up the current lengthy power point to help define roles, and offering it more and better tailor it to students who need it
- Room bookings
- Not a bad system but has some troubles, don’t get requested rooms exactly and can be long wait, or rooms hard to find for new students
- Attempt to help make the process more streamlined with a form for Uwe rooms with clear requirements and to try to get it sent straight to Uwe timetabling
- Another way is to have some rooms booked by the SU to have fall back for societies if rooms aren’t available and easier ways to book, as well as keep rooms closer.
- More events
- Refreshers fairs was a great start this year, however with limited spaces and new societies not guaranteed spots, and freshers fairs limited timing
- By having more events to allow for promotion, bar nights, more fairs with different goals and promoting use of the top floor and bar more. Essentially create more opportunities for societies to promote and get more members.
These aren’t my only ideas and plan to develop more and adapt to what people ask for, which I plan to have weekly Q&As if I get elected to do so. Vote for me so I can make your societies stronger.
