Candidate for the position of Vice President Community and Welfare
Vote KEV for WELFARE
I am Kevin Wilson, and I am hereby running in the election to be your next community and welfare officer a few things as to why I am the right individual for the post are.
A key element of the job is to understand diversity in a variety of ways coming from the platform as a disabled person I have a keen interest in seeing how a campaign for the needs of those students who falls into those protected categories and also those that does not. Also essential is the skill and the knowledge to have communications with different individuals both within the university, local universities and colleges, local and national governmental bodies to try and eject changes that will be of benefit to the students at the university, in essence it is all about leaving a legacy that can be improved upon. In championing a topic of disability as a wheelchair user, an action that would be top of my list is CLASSROOM ACCESS.
This would highlight a need to be in constant conversation with the departments responsible for pioneering a change in the atmosphere that is provided and populated but the student community.
I believe in doing this it will be fulfilling effectively working keenly with the ‘protected’ groups which will in turn form a more unified student body, extending this work to the Bristol community to make UWE a better place for others to come and study.
A main focus will be, being the voice of the students that are marginalised, oppressed or excluded for whatever reason possible.
