Candidate for the position of Vice President Sports and Health
Sports for all, backing #TeamUWE the whole way. Vote Callum for VP Sport & Health!
Hi Squads, Teams and Individuals! I’m Callum, currently a second year Business Management student and a heavily involved Safety and Equipment officer to UWE Boat Club. I’d like to think I know a boat after participating for 8 years and having some fantastic achievements, while also making a lot of friends!
I have been pretty involved with the SU (trust me, I’m there daily) and I’ve always wanted to be able to be more involved. My passion for rowing can easily be expanded to the other sports clubs. I took the position as E&S officer with no previous committee member in the role over the last few years. It meant I had a lot to do in terms of reshaping, updating and increasing the safety practices as well as the equipment provided. This is something that all sports clubs should have access to. I know that it can be hard to run a sports club, but I know the ways to make it easier!
Sport can bring a lot of enjoyment, thrill and buzz. This is why I want to implement a ‘Sport for All’ strategy which will be focused on providing support through all aspects of sport across all campuses. As well as this I want to make sure that sport is not denied on the basis of a low income background – everyone should have the opportunity to participate!
Elite sport isn’t for everyone; that’s why I feel that clubs should be able to cater for those that are wanting to participate recreationally. I also believe that Off the Wall should be promoted a lot more than it is… £10 is rather cheap to do such a wide range of activities.
With the further reduction of parking on campus it’s noticeable that parking is getting more limited. I want to promote the use of bikes, however to do this security needs to increase. Cycling should be a fun, healthy, cheap and easy way to commute to University.
Varsity… lets increase the amount of spectators, participants and volunteers to celebrate #TeamUWE. This is one of the biggest sports events in the South West, I want to promote it to everyone!
And also... Committee t-shirts (and other perks) are coming back, I want the committees of each club to be proud of their achievements!
#TeamUWE – Who even likes the colour Maroon? Vote Callum for VP Sport and Health.
