Strong season. Let's run it back!
Hello, I'm Anya and I'm seeking round 2 for this role!
I’m the current VP Sports & Health and a long-standing member of the UWE sports community. I joined UWE Volleyball in 2019, later serving on the club committee and captaining the Women’s 1st Team. Those experiences gave me first-hand insight into how sports clubs run and the challenges committees face. I’m also a Biological Sciences graduate and soon to graduate my MSc in Science Communication, bringing analytical thinking and strong communication skills to the role.
But why choose me? Well, students trusted me with this role last year when I was elected into this position, and I’ve worked hard to deliver on that trust. I’ve strengthened the voice of students by establishing the Sports Executive Committee, secured sponsorship to enhance the student experience at the Sports Awards, and led key campaigns such as Movember – even getting our Vice-Chancellor involved!
I’ve also helped grow the visibility of student sport through regular fixture livestreaming and expanded sports media opportunities, while building strong partnerships with the university, the Students’ Union and other key stakeholders. Most importantly, I’ve used this role to advocate for what students actually need and to push forward positive change for the sporting community here at UWE.
Re-elect me and let’s keep building on the progress we’ve started.
Here are my priorities:
Make sport more affordable
• Lobby the university for a Student Sport Hardship Fund to support the ever-increasing cost-of-living pressures students face
• Support clubs with financial guidance and sustainable funding such as through effective sponsorship and fundraising training throughout the year
Build a stronger TeamUWE community
• Launch a Sport of the Month programme with tasters across the year, providing access to extra participation outside of the MOVE programme
• Introduce a TeamUWE sport timetable so students know when games, activities and events are taking place on and off the campuses
Support healthier participation
• Advocate for more students to have Wednesday afternoons free without impacting their studies
• Work with UWE Sport to explore injury support groups while increasing the awareness for the sports injury clinic
Celebrate student sport
• Expand sports media opportunities including photography, videography and livestreaming, and improve promotion of home fixtures
• Build a bigger Varsity atmosphere, including fan zones and engagement opportunities so more students can be involved
Sport builds confidence, wellbeing and belonging. I want more students to have the chance to be part of it!
