Who am I? 

Heya! I’m Bec and I’m currently a first-year student at UWE studying Architecture. I’m a born and raised Bristolian and I love doing my bit for the community, for example I’ve been volunteering for almost 5 years! 

I’m also very interested in the environment and the ways in which we can get involved with current issues surrounding it. Currently I am part of the sustainability committee, and we are working on the community garden and green spaces around Frenchay. 

What am I planning on doing? 

•As mentioned, I’m on the sustainability committee so as sustainability officer I would like to continue the efforts on the community garden as I believe students deserve an outdoor space to connect and relax.  

•I want to hear your voices! Any concerns or suggestions on how you want to improve sustainability at the Student Union? I’ll actively try my best bring it forward as this is our union and we deserve to be listened to! 

•I’d like to make the community at UWE even stronger which I’ve already started by getting in contact with a wide range of societies to take part in the committee's campaign, so why not expand that even further with activities that not just bring aware to current issues but to also bring friends together to do something fun after the stress of lectures and exams (I know we all need a little break from time to time). 

•I’d like to encourage students to do small acts towards sustainability in their everyday day as small acts can make a difference, however, I understand being sustainable can be confusing when you have no idea where to start, don’t worry! Another plan of mine is to post guides on social media from how to recycle to repurposing old clothes so any student can become more aware and join the fight for a more environmental world.
