Throughout my time at UWE, I searched for opportunities to take initiative, work in teams, and contribute to projects that have a real impact. As a student rep and a member of the Consultation Panel, I am committed to representing the student body and relaying feedback. This experience strengthened my leadership, organization, and communication skills while working toward shared objectives. Under this position, I also completed a certified course on sustainability which I believe everyone should do! I know that sustainability is one of the biggest challenges of our time, and universities play an important role in shaping solutions and behaviors. With this thought, I volunteered with WesternForest UK to plant trees in the South Gloucestershire area.
If I were elected, I would aim to do the following:
- Make sustainability more fun: I aim to engage and partner with societies to promote sustainable habits, hold movie nights relevant to sustainability with free snacks, and collaborate with present green groups to conduct activities. In the interest of creatively inclined individuals, I would organize poster competitions for Green Week.
- Act as a direct line of contact: I would do my best to coordinate and foster an environment where ideas and feedback can be shared openly. I will relay feedback for issues and make sure that outcomes are handed back to the student body.
- Increase Visibility: I aim to highlight various initiatives and sustainability projects held across various campuses by coordinating with social media teams.
- Space for student ideas: The brightest sparks are often in the dimmest surroundings. I would like to build a platform wherein students feel free enough to put forth ideas and suggestions, for example through opinion boards and boxes, to improve sustainability at UWE.
- Conduct Sustainability Fairs: I want to help expand Sustainability Fairs so more students can get involved.
