Turning Student Voices into Real Change
Hi, my name is Farhaanuddin Syed, a final-year Aerospace Engineering Student. I was a student representative for my course, and during my time at university, I experienced all the challenges that students face. From my experience, I understand that during this period, a strong academic environment is important for students.
I am standing for the role of VP of Education to ensure students’ voices are heard and that every UWE Bristol student receives engaging teaching, an inclusive environment, and strong support to not only succeed in their studies but also after completing their courses. I will work closely with students, course representatives, and university staff to improve communication, strengthen academic support, and elevate our learning environment. My commitment is to a supportive, inclusive, and empowering university where every student can achieve their goals. I am approachable, dedicated, and ready to work with the Students’ Union to deliver these changes.
1. More engaging teaching and learning
I will work with the university and staff to promote more engaging, interactive, and easier-to-understand teaching methods that help students better understand their subjects. I will ensure students are informed about the support available to them during their course and exams, thereby improving academic performance and reducing stress.
2. Timely and useful assessment feedback
By collaborating with faculty and improving communication channels, I will ensure that all students receive timely, clear, and constructive feedback. This will help the students to easily understand their mistakes and perform better in future assessments.
3. Ensuring student feedback leads to real change
I will help set up more opportunities for students to be heard. I will make it easier for students to report any educational difficulties to their professors. Set up additional communication channels between students and their representatives to ensure every student’s voice is heard and that all feedback is acted on.
4. Improving IT and accessible learning resources
I want to make sure there are always sufficient study spaces and PCs with the required software available. No more blackboard maintenance shutdowns during the assignment period. I will advocate for more universally accessible campus spaces so that no student feels left out.
5. Increase focus on career development
I will push for more opportunities for UWE Bristol students to secure internships and placements. Not just career fairs but workshops where students can learn how to enhance their CV’s. Seminars where students can connect with alumni and learn networking skills.
